Here come the Men in Black, back after a seven-year hiatus, and the (new) cast gets a slick new fleet of cars from Lexus to help defend Earth from extraterrestrial violence. The latest installment of the Men in Black franchise–MIB: International–cruises into theaters today on the crackling exhaust note of the main characters' Lexus RC F coupe.

The new movie is gearing up to be one of this summer's biggest blockbusters as it follows eager Agent M (Tessa Thompson) and her partner, Agent H (Chris Hemsworth), as they investigate a suspected mole in the Men in Black organization. The case takes them to London, where they are seen tearing around town in the right-hand-drive RC F while MIB support staff show up in all-black RX SUVs. Emma Thompson reprises her role as Agent O, and other supporting cast members include Liam Neeson and Kumail Nanjiani as the comic relief. While we're not movie critics, we did get to experience an advance screening of the movie last night courtesy of Lexus, and came away smiling; while hardly Oscar-worthy, the film is an action-packed romp that is sure to please fans of the franchise, especially the frequent nostalgic nods to the 1997 original.

Upon arrival back in London after fighting bad guys in the field, Agents H and M find their specially-fitted RC F parked under an auto show-esque satin sheet; pulling the sheet off the facelifted 2020 model predictably causes jealousy over who gets to drive it. While en route to the next galactic crisis, Agent M is seen using the touchpad infotainment controller to turn the car into the QZ 618 Galactic Enforcer jet, which is better than using it to control the infotainment system, in our opinion. We've found it clumsy for its intended purpose, but then again, our press cars haven't ever come equipped with the flying-car feature, so perhaps our perspective is off.

Like other installments of the franchise, the cars are the stars–at least for the car-obsessed audience here at Car and Driver. The RC F is a serious upgrade to the agents' wheels in past Men in Black movies, which included a 1987 Ford LTD Crown Victoria, a 2003 Mercedes-Benz E500 sedan, and a 2012 Ford Taurus SHO–all black, of course. With a 472-hp V-8 under its hood and a sport-tuned suspension, we think the RC F is an ideal car for MIB agents, especially in the menacing all-black livery shown here.

The last time we tested an RC F was back in 2015. The revised 2020 model that's used in the film has undergone a refresh that sees weight reductions, a slight boost in engine output, and tweaks to its suspension to improve handling. At our test track, the 2015 model was certainly quick, however, with a 4.3-second rip to 60 mph, a 9.9-second zero-to-100-mph time, and a recorded top speed of 171 mph. Now that it's modernized for MIB duty, we can only imagine what kind of performance the RC F will offer.
